ION8 Wireless Remote I/O
Digital, analog and load cell signals from the rotating or remote side of the machine, carried to the controller over Bluetooth LE 5. Native to wire and cable machinery.

Why ION8?
Sensors and actuators on a rotating cradle no longer depend on slip rings
No cable to rotating parts
I/O sits on the cradle, bow or carriage and talks to the fixed side by radio. Slip-ring contacts and trailing cables are out of the signal path.
Robust wireless link
Bluetooth LE 5 with adaptive channel selection and adaptive transmit power keeps the link stable next to drives and welding equipment.
Built-in web interface, fast commissioning
Every unit carries its own web interface: open it from a phone or laptop and see every value you need live, set the channels, run diagnostics and update the firmware. No extra connection, no app, no engineering software; a station is commissioned in minutes.
Speaks to your PLC
Through ION8 EB the stations appear as plain data blocks, registers or tags in Allen-Bradley (EtherNet/IP), Siemens, Modbus and OPC UA systems.
Mirror mode
Two ION8 units can mirror each other without any PLC: inputs on one side become outputs on the other.
Machine health on board
Tilt, vibration, temperature and supply quality of the rotating section are measured by the module and reported with the I/O data.
Model code
Each digit of ION8-ABCD names the module in one slot
An ION8 unit has four slots. The model number lists what is fitted in slots A, B, C and D.
| Digit | Slot module |
|---|---|
| 1 | 8 digital inputs |
| 2 | 8 digital outputs |
| 3 | 4 analog inputs |
| 4 | 4 analog outputs |
| 5 | 2 isolated load cell inputs |
| 0 | Empty slot |
Models
Other slot combinations are available on request. Models with analog outputs (AO) take 15–30 V DC, all others 10–30 V DC; 15 V is needed for the analog output.
| Model | I/O | Supply | Typical use |
|---|---|---|---|
| ION8-1324 | 8 DI · 4 AI · 8 DO · 4 AO | 15–30 V DC | Bunchers and stranders: full I/O for the rotating section |
| ION8-1325 | 8 DI · 4 AI · 8 DO · 2 load cell | 10–30 V DC | Tension measurement and control on the rotating section |
| ION8-1030 | 8 DI · 4 AI | 10–30 V DC | Sensors and analog transmitters |
| ION8-2040 | 8 DO · 4 AO | 15–30 V DC | Valves, brakes and analog setpoints |
| ION8-1010 | 16 DI | 10–30 V DC | Wire break, limit and position sensors |
| ION8-2020 | 16 DO | 10–30 V DC | Valves, contactors and lamps |
| ION8-1111 | 32 DI | 10–30 V DC | Large sensor groups, alarm collection |
| ION8-2222 | 32 DO | 10–30 V DC | Large actuator groups |
What every module brings
Standard across the family
Digital inputs
2 quadrature encoder inputs and 2 pulse counters on each 8-input module, plus a software pulse counter and frequency reading on every input.
Digital outputs
4 PWM channels on each 8-output module with adjustable frequency and duty; pulse and direction signals for external step drives.
Analog I/O
A signal chain you can watch and adjust from the web interface: filter, gain and scaling per channel. Analog outputs are 0–10 V. Every unit is calibrated individually.
Load cell inputs
Isolated inputs for direct connection of load cells, for tension measurement where it happens.
Where it works
Typical applications in wire and cable production
On a buncher, the ION8-1324 in the rotating cradle carries sensors and outputs wirelessly to the stationary ION8 and the PLC panel; no slip ring is needed.
On a multi-bobbin rigid strander the ION8-5555 reads the tension of each wire from its load cell and the ION8-1122 drives each bobbin brake with PWM; the setpoint comes from the PLC through ION8 EB, the on-board high-accuracy PID and Edge AI control close the loop locally for every wire, and the actual value is reported back to the PLC. The motion sensor on the ION8-5555 also measures tilt and vibration of the rotating cage.
On a line with pay-off reel, load-cell guide roller, dancer and take-up, the ION8-1325 reads the load cell and carries it wirelessly to the PLC.
Dies, capstan and a measuring wheel with an encoder feed the ION8-1010; metre and speed counts are carried wirelessly to the panel.
The ION8-2040 gives the motor drive a 0–10 V analog speed reference and the traverse stepper drive PULSE and DIRECTION commands.
Bunchers and stranders
Cradle sensors, brakes, tension and traverse signals on the rotating section.
Tension control
Dancer position and load cell signals read on the moving part itself.
Pay-offs and take-ups
Remote I/O on the carriage instead of a cable chain.
Retrofits
Add I/O to existing machines without pulling new cable.
